Our Story

The History of Croft 72
Ewen and Elaine Campbell are the owners of Croft 72 Camaghael. The croft has been in the family since the early 1800's and they are the sixth generation to work the croft. While the wet climate restricts the growing of many crops, the fertile land on the banks of the River Lochy is ideal for growing grass, potatoes and turnips. The croft was home to a small dairy herd of about five or six Ayrshire cows up until the early 70's. More recently, a prizewinning herd of Aberdeen Angus Cattle have been the main enterprise. Established in 1983 by Uncle Donald, the herd now has 20 cows. In the last few years, calves from the Kilmallie Herd have won championships at several national competitions.
